Introduction to Classical Drawing Techniques Course
From Simple to Complicated block-ins (Foundation class)
In this class, you will learn essential problem-solving skills that are crucial for drawing from life. You will start by analyzing simple shapes and gradually progress to casts at your own pace. This exercise helps artists accurately translate visual information into two dimensions, developing an efficient, analytical process for seeing abstract shapes and blocking-in.
Light versus Shadow (Foundation Class)
Students use graphite or charcoal to draw human features from plaster casts. In this stage, students experiment with various light sources and directions of light to address issues before the linear block-in. This plays a crucial role in understanding composition a greatly improves an artist’s “Art intuition”.
Creating an illusion of three-dimensional space (Foundation Class)
This technical stage focuses on the translation of three-dimensional space to a two-dimensional surface. During this stage, we carefully assess, compare, analyze, and recreate the way in which light interacts with different objects and surfaces.

In this course, students learn various techniques to effectively manipulate tone and value in their compositions. They will utilize both natural and artificial light. Additionally, students will learn how to manipulate light sources, tones, and values to create atmospheric perspective. Exploring different compositions and moods in them by using only tone and value is essential for better understanding the decision-making of great masters.
